Winners 2022/23

The World Brand Design Society would first like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to every agency and creative individual for sharing their creative endeavours in the WBDS Awards 2022/23 and, secondly, a massive congratulations to all deserving winners.

This year's WBDS Agency Design Awards were again highly competitive, and our judges and editors were particularly rigorous in their selection of work at every stage of the judging process. Only 279 works were selected for an award from over a thousand entries worldwide. There have been 7x Black, 39 x Golds, 97x Silver, 91x Bronze and 52 Commended Awards.

The World Brand Design Society – Agency Design Awards will reopen on the 1st of May, 2023, and we will continue supporting agencies and promoting their work. All agencies can pre-register for the WBDS Awards here, and you can also submit work to be published on our website all year round here.

AGENCY OF THE YEAR

This year's World Brand Design Society Awards – Agency of the Year goes to Kind for the third year running. The highly successful agency is based in Bergen, Norway, with branch offices in Oslo, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Shanghai, and has won a total of 28 awards, including 5x Gold, 10x Silver, 8x Bronze and 5x commended awards. Kind's most notable three works picked up five golds;

Packaging Design Creation for Bue, Norway's Westernmost Fish Farm Brand. Bue is known for sustainable harvested land-based Fresh Island Salmon. The brand's unique selling point is that the fast-flowing current in the area creates a fantastic salmon that is more agile, muscular and tastier than others. Kind created Bue's packaging design to be sustainable, with premium loins packaged in wood for upcycling and ready-to-eat trays made of recyclable pulp. The slogan "current made" is prominently featured.

Brand Redesign for Åmot Luxury Lodging is a luxury rural retreat in Norway, situated in a picturesque fjord landscape and has been in the Sørli family for five generations. The brand revolves around the feeling of a pause and the estate's heritage, with warm, inclusive communication and a renaissance-inspired identity and photography. The typography is inspired by 1800s typesetting, and the monogram is used as an integrated part of written communication. The photography focuses on the owners, chef, and sommelier and captures moments from the surrounding area and the farm itself. Search for all entries of the Åmot project here.

Brand Redesign and Graphic Design for Spatial Environments for Oslo-based Stingray Marine Solutions aimed to communicate the unique benefits of its high-precision laser technology to the international aquaculture industry. The rebranding's mission is to support more intelligent, healthier fish farming with a laser focus on sustainability and compassion. Stingray's technology eliminates parasites that infect farmed fish, helping fish farmers to increase production and improve harvesting while ensuring fish welfare. Photography for Identity for Gyda, a brand that harvests sustainably managed and responsibly harvested Arctic Snow Crab, is known for its sweet yet subtly briny flavour and firm texture. The brand is inspired by the purity of the Arctic and takes its name from a Norwegian legend of a queen who held to her standards. Gyda's six-star trademark represents superior quality and a promise of excellence. Search for all entries of the Gyda project here.

BEST AGENCY WORK OF THE YEAR

Bombay Sapphire's new ready-to-drink range was developed by drink specialist Knockout design agency to align with the premium look and feel of Bombay Sapphire's global portfolio while conveying convenience in the simplest yet most stylish way possible. The design reimagines Bombay Sapphire's iconic equities for a contemporary RTD experience. Elegant typography, metallic detailing and a matte finish bestow a sophisticated feel appealing to a modern crowd, whilst Queen Victoria's cameo and the wordmark act as a stamp of authority, conveying credibility from the world's number one premium gin.

NOTABLE WORKS

Italian agency Auge Design created a packaging design special edition range of high-quality, traditionally crafted Italian preserves for Collezione Casa Marrazzo. They designed a custom jar with a sophisticated, warm and naive illustration style.

Truffl Branding Agency from the United States design Last Crumb's memorable unboxing experience, using sleek and organised black boxes, semi-transparent individual matte-finished cookie pouches, and a 40-page cookie coffee table magazine, elevating the experience beyond the nostalgia of a local bakery.

Kicking Goat Cider is a luxury, small-batch cider brand that uses 17 varieties of the finest cider apples grown on family-owned orchards, focusing on flavour and a discerning boujee sophistication. The brand creates an understated, timeless aesthetic and emphasises the concept of 'dolce vita cider' ,and it was created with the help of

Limegreentangerine agency from the United Kingdom for branding, label design, visual messaging and website development.

EazzyPizzy is a pizza and gelato delivery company from Russia that offers a unique blend of sweet, salty, sour, and bitter tastes. The packaging is designed to be attractive and juicy, and the colour scheme consists of 4 bright colours against a black and white background. The brand identity emphasises its uniqueness with a visual contrast technique and a branded pattern featuring pizza and gelato. Creative Director created the branding: Ewgene Wisotow, and Graphic Designer: Lesha Limonov and Yushkouski

Red Lake Whiskey is a blend of classic American whiskey and industrial revolution imagery; Studio Boam created and featured a historic locomotive as its emblem and a label design evoking a casino storefront and the Futurism movement.

Revamped branding and packaging design by Auge Design for international sweet biscuit manufacturer Bahlsen with a new typographic language for new generations, emphasising the naturalness and goodness of the product while maintaining an iconic design system across all products.

Optima Planta grows herbs with AI-controlled cultivation boxes, using the NASA technique of aeroponics, allowing more taste, no soil and 95% less water, making it possible for anyone to become a sustainable farmer with a new identity, packaging design and story created by Pond, standing out on the herb shelves with a superhero-inspired packaging that is plastic-free, minimal, compostable paper, and showing the plants roots, differentiating colour scheme and tonality.

SEVEN WBDS BLACK MARK

Seven WBDS Agency Black Mark has been handed out in 2022/23, going to Knockout, Auge Design, Truffl Branding Agency, Studio Boam, SingleDouble, Kingdom & Sparrow and Limegreentangerine.
